A lovely day in Troyan

Another day of my EVS here. Be ready at 7:15 to go to Troyan for a presentation of European Voluntary Service, with two and a half hours car travel to get there. The four of us cramped in the car of Christina (chairperson of the organization), who takes us there. The plan was that after the presentation Christina would show us different places of Troyan.

The girls sleeping in the car. On arrival switching to the 'teamshirt'. Around the table with the headmaster proudly telling us about the school. Not that enthusiastic presentation, but the young people laughed and listened.

Walking through the sunny towncenter with planted flowers and old people taking a walk and chatting, to a museum. The lady museumguide taking us past the different artifacts with a lot of love. She even uses a smartphone with build-in projector to show us some videos on the wall.

In the car I ask when Christina is planning to go back to Sofia and whether the village she is keen to show us is closer to Sofia or to Troyan. We would first have a lunch, then go to the 'famous' Troyan monastery, and then back in Sofia no later then 19:00.

Walking through the stylish wooden restaurant to the sunny garden, we saw that we pretty much had it for ourselves. The view was grassfields, with behind the grassfields mountains. We shared the dishes and picked many different ones. Some served in a pot, different types of salads, some dishes with a little meat, some with cheese. We joked that Oles was so concentrated on the food. Oles told us more of his 'horror story' upon arrival in Bulgaria: his initial organization stole money from him and gave him a hard time. On the grassfields two men were moaning the grass. We took some 'group-selfies'. Christina told us why she sadly had to give up on her initial dream. After some more laughes about how much and how tasty the food was, we left the table.

The Troyan monastery was very close. We saw the relics on the walls, lit a candle, heard Christina mention a recent scandal at this monastery, had Christina tell us about how the national hero hid at this monastery, and left again.

The girls slept again in the car. We stopped and had a coffee (or tea) at the mini village with which Christina (also) has a personal connection. We enjoyed the quietness in the air, the tjilping birds, the view on the distant mountains. Time to leave the relaxement and go back to the city.

In the car I reflected why I felt so good about this day. We arrived back late, almost 20:00. Christina has said that it was a great day for her too.
